Located near Agumbe, this is a fall best suited for those who love Adventure, Trekking and Wildlife. It is at a distance of about 40 kms to the south-west of Thirthahalli Town, in Balehalli State Forest Area. Barkana is a hamlet of Balehalli village in Thirthahalli Taluk of Shivamogga District, Karnataka.
Water falls down the valley from a height of 850 ft, making it one of highest waterfall in India. Trekking in this valley, forest one can enjoy scenic beauty, peaceful bliss and relaxing under the sky.
On the right is the mountain which appears like a reclining head and has evergreen forests. The Barkana valley commands charming scenery all round.
The viewpoint is 2-3 Kms from Malandur village & approach road is very muddy In order to reach the top of the falls from here one has to trek for about an hour through dense forest.
This route is part of the Narsima Parvatha trek - a 2-day trek from Agumbe.
ಸೀತಾ ನದಿಯು ಪಶ್ಚಿಮಘಟ್ಟದ ಶೃಂಗ ಶ್ರೇಣಿಯ ನಡುವೆ ಹಾದು ಹೋಗುವಾಗ ಈ ಸುಂದರ ಜಲಪಾತವನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿದೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದ 10 ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಎತ್ತರದ ಜಲಪಾತಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬರಕಾನಾ ಜಲಪಾತ ಕೂಡ ಒಂದು. ಆಗುಂಬೆಯ ಸನಿಹದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಈ ಜಲಪಾತವು ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿತ ಅರಣ್ಯ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ತೀರ್ಥಹಳ್ಳಿ ಶೃಂಗೇರಿ ಮಾರ್ಗವಾಗಿ, ತೀರ್ಥಹಳ್ಳಿಯಿಂದ 40 ಕೀ.ಮೀ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ ಈ ತಾಣ. ಆಗುಂಬೆಯಿಂದ 1 ಕೀ.ಮೀ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಈ ಜಲಪಾತಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವಾಗ ಅರಣ್ಯ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಅನುಮತಿ ಕಡ್ಡಾಯ. ಜೂನ್ ದಿಂದ ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ ತಿಂಗಳು ಜಲಪಾತ ವೀಕ್ಷಣೆಗೆ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸೂಕ್ತ ಸಮಯ.
It is a valley with natural waterfalls of the Seetha River which falls down from a height of about 259.25 meters.
Trekking through Balenahalli forest area and watching Sunset at Barakan Falls View Point would be very interesting
The word ‘barka’ refers to the Mouse Deer that is found in that region. Hence named as Barkana Falls.
Post monsoon Sept to Jan will be ideal but if you are very adventures and risk taker you can try during rainy season also (May to August).
Roads’ leading to the falls is very muddy hence Jeep or SUV’s would be ideal. Visitors can hire Jeep from Agumbe or Hebri to reach foot hill of Barkara.

The falls is well connected by road from Agumbe village. One can reach Agumbe by state run buses or private taxi from around the state with well-connected roads.
Reaching Agumbe By Rail:
Agumbe is not yet connected by rail network, the nearest Railway stations is Udupi Railway Station located 60 km away From Agumbe, and second nearest station is Shivamogga / Shimoga Railway Station is 90 km. One can get private taxi from both the Railway stations.
